About the Registry

The Austrian emissions trading register is an electronic registration system for the administration of emissions certificates. The registry guarantees the precise booking of the issuance, ownership, transfer, acquisition, cancellation, and retirement of allotted allowances and Kyoto units. The Austrian registry makes it possible for companies to trade in emissions allowances and to return allowances at the end of the trading period.
Verified emissions of companies are also entered into the registry. This serves as proof of compliance with the obligations to reduce emissions.

The Austrian emissions trading registry is operated jointly by Umweltbundesamt GmbH and ECRA GmbH as defined by law. Umweltbundesamt as the registry is the principal competent body and responsible for the technical management of the registry. Umweltbundesamt acts as the interface to the national and international authorities. ECRA GmbH in its function as the registry service office is responsible for the operation of the emissions registry and acts as the main contact partner and service office for account holders.

All information relating to the registry or registry service office and access to the registry as well as the information of relevance and forms for plant operators, traders and auditors are available at the website en.emissionshandelsregister.at.
