07.04.2011 Illegally transferred CO2 certificates transferred back to Austria from Sweden
The C02 emissions certificates transferred illegally out of the Austrian registry on 10 January 2011 were returned to Austria. These 237,100 certificates are the ones that had been frozen on a Swedish account. The transfer was executed by a Swedish court order, which not only imposed the legal confiscation, but also their return to Austria. The court order entered into force on 5 April 2011.
07.02.2011 Illegally transferred allowances from Austrian emissions trading registry have been frozen
In the course of the cyber attack on the Austrian emissions trading registry in the beginning of January illegal transactions were carried out. All illegally transferred allowances have been frozen on accounts in other European registries. Consequently, there is not risk that these allowances are traded on the market and thus no need to publish the serial numbers of the affected allowances. The Austrian Public Prosecution Service has filed requests to get the affected allowances transferred back to Austria. Currently, additional security measures are being implemented the Austrian emissions trading registry. We will keep you informed about the status of the Austrian registry.
21.01.2011 Austrian Emissions Trading Registry - details about the Cyber-Attack
As a consequence of a hacker attack against the Austrian emissions trading registry on 10th January 2011 the registry has been taken offline. The respective security breach was closed immediately. 488.141 certificates were transferred from a reserve account, while ECRA was disabled by a DOS (Denial of service)-attack. Shortly thereafter, the illegally transferred certificates were located in Liechtenstein and Sweden and blocked. The cybercriminal-attack did not result in losses to any holder of personal or operator accounts.
